New York Giants Make a Splash Trade

The Giants finally had enough. We discussed some mid August trades but now, After the offensive line struggled mightily against the Patriots in the Pre-season finale, Dave Gettlemen made another decision. DT BJ Hill who has played his last 3 years with the Giants is on the move for OL Billy Price. Let’s take a look at the newest member of big blue.

Who is Billy Price?

Price grew up in Austintown, Ohio where he attended Fitch High School. Then it was time for Billy Price to make his college decision. Where better to attend than staying right at home? He chose the Ohio State Buckeyes where he spent 5 years. His senior season, he won the Rimington trophy which is given to the best collegiate center. He also was named an All American by unanimous decision. After college, Price had his sights set on one thing. The NFL.

His time with the Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals drafted Billy Price with the 21st pick in the first round of the 2018 NFL draft. The pick initially belonged to the Buffalo Bills but was traded to the Bengals. In his rookie year he played and started in 10 games. He missed the other 6 games due to a foot injury he suffered week 2 against the Ravens. He was a big contributor in a 1,000 yard rushing season for RB Joe Mixon and was selected to the All Rookie team by the Professional Football Writers of America. In his second season he played in all 16 games with 8 starts. 7 of those starts came at LG and the other at RG. He was a huge contributor to another 1,000 yard rushing season for Mixon. In his 3rd season he played in all 16 games with 1 start at center against the Titans. In that one start he aided in an effort that led to zero sacks allowed in that game. Something we all hope can happen a couple times this season for Daniel Jones.

Overall, was it a good trade?

Yes, it absolutely was. It became much clearer that the Giants could use any help they could get at on offensive line as their starters struggled to protect Daniel Jones against the Patriots. The Giants have a ton of depth at the interior defensive line position so BJ Hill was worth moving on from. Leonard Williams and Dexter Lawrence have been much more effective. Billy Price is very versatile as he can play all 3 interior line positions. He was a first round caliber talent who could finally have a chance to shine with the New York Giants. We knew the Offensive line needed some help so hopefully we can cover the success of this trade in the near future.
